FIRST YEAR REPRESENTATIVE PROGRAM

DCS ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

VACANCIES THROUGHOUT THE YEAR
First Year Representative Program
The Deakin Commerce Society holds an annual first-year representative program.
Similar to our AGM, any first-year studying in any field of study is able to apply.
A Facebook post will be made inviting students to apply via a series of questions.
Upon reviewing the applications, a number of first-years will be invited to attend our face-to-face First year representative event.*
This event will comprise of a team-based challenge, where first years will be tested on their ability to communicate, work in a team and have the opportunity to demonstrate why they should be a part of DCS.
Successful applicants will then be invited to be a part of the DCS committee, working with all divisions for the remainder of the year. to understand how the committee works.
*Please note that due to the COVID-19 outbreak in 2020, DCS will not be holding a face-to-face challenge this year

"Not only did the DCS First Year program gift me with the skills, resources, and enthusiasm to guide me to my current role, it also brought me to the people who today I call my best friends. I am thankful every day to the DCS First Year program and can’t imagine my university life without the opportunities it has gifted me."
Chryssa Yannios
Head of Events 2020
"Being on DCS has shown me the importance of communication and networking. Drawing on these two skills has assisted me in my professional development, therefore enabling me to start to establish myself in the corporate landscape."

Deakin Commerce Society
Annual General Meeting
As with all other student societies at Deakin, the Deakin Commerce Society is required to hold an Annual General Meeting (AGM) sometime during Trimester 2 of each year.
As per our constitution, all positions on DCS become vacant for anyone to apply* - regardless of your field of study.
A Facebook post will be made well in advance of the AGM with all relevant information on how to apply and the date of the meeting.
Applicants will then have to prepare a short speech to be delivered at our AGM, with votes cast by those eligible in attendance.
To be eligible to vote you must be a DCS member.
In the event you are unable to attend our AGM, you will be able to submit a video as a way of application.
* Please note that to apply for the position of President, you must have been on DCS for longer than 12 months
Vacancies throughout the year
As one of the largest student societies on campus, it is essential to the Deakin Commerce Society that all positions are occupied throughout the year.
Furthermore, it is possible that positions may become vacant for those to apply outside of our Annual General Meeting or First Year Representative Program.
In the event that this occurs, a post will be made via our Facebook page inviting any Deakin student to apply
Depending on the position, the application process may differ. However, it will always involve a written application and an interview with some or all of the executive of the DCS.
Please keep an eye on our Facebook page and other social media for any vacancies.

"DCS has allowed me to develop a higher sense of professionalism, in turn assisting me in being more organised, task-oriented and as a result, has projected my university life in a positive direction. You feel good at uni, you do well at uni, simple as that and DCS assisted me in doing so."
